Volkswagen Atlas and ID.4 Receive Top Safety Ratings in New Test from the IIHS

Volkswagen recently announced that its Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, and ID.4 SUVs all received the top ranking of “good” in a new side-impact test from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. This stringent new test evaluates the vehicle’s safety structure built into the frame, and injury mitigation measures to both driver and front and rear passengers.

To do well in this test, the vehicle’s occupant compartment must keep its shape well during a crash. Airbags must prevent head injuries to occupants and help prevent other serious injuries. The Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, and ID.4 all received the highest ranking in these new tests.

Some standard safety features across all VW models include:

  • At least 6 airbags
  • Antilock braking systems
  • Electronic stability control

The 2022 Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, and ID.4 also have standard:

  • Rear traffic alert
  • Blind spot monitor
  • Forward collision warning
  • Autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian monitoring
